In a month of birthdays

April seems to be the month in which almost everyone we know has a birthday. In roughly chronological order:

Paula
Anise
Saffron
Ele's dad
My dad

I've probably missed one or two out as well.

So practically every week or weekend has seen some sort of birthday party.

On Sunday we went to see the Gumball rally start. There's a few pictures here: http://picasaweb.google.com/ndrinkall/Gumball2007

Good fun, but very very very crowded. We didn't get a good position to see the cars drive off, so most of the photo's of that bit were just me holding the camera in the air and hoping for the best. I got some good shots of the stationary cars when they were just lined up down Pall Mall though.

Joe had a good time. I bought him some reins in the morning so he could walk around a bit and he loves them. He liked the cars, too. There was an F1 car taking part, and when it went past (about 5 feet away) it was incredibly loud. Joe just looked at me and said "more?". Funny boy.

Easter

We had a busy Easter weekend.

Friday was spent searching for some garden furniture to replace our sagging set. We visited a garden center that had some extremely nice stuff, but for about £2000, which was about £1800 more than our budget. Homebase had nothing, but B&Q had a nice set on offer for £215. We were all set to buy this, but then it turned out they didn't have the table, so we decided to go back the next day, when they promised to have some more.
We then went home and I went to put up the parasol for our old set as it was really hot, and it broke in half! So now we needed to buy a new parasol as well as furniture. We had a look on the Argos website and saw a nice looking set for about £220, including a parasol. We didn't order it there and then, though.

On Saturday we went food shopping, and in Tesco's we saw a set of garden furniture, including a parasol, for £74.99! Bargain, so we bought it. We then drove up to Oxford services to pick up Jess (as she has been at her dad's all week), then came home and built the furniture, which was suprisingly simple to do. It's very nice; round table rather than rectangular, so no corners for Joe to bump his head on. The table is a bit small, but big enough for our needs, really, and gives us some more space on the patio. The parasol is also a bit small, but if we have to buy a bigger one it won't be a big deal, as the set was so cheap.

On Sunday we went for our normal Easter trip to Knole House near Sevenoaks in Kent. We got there and there was hardly anyone there. We were going to do the Easter trail (which is a quiz you complete on a walk around and you get an Easter Egg at the end of it), but for some reason it had been held only on the Thursday only. How stupid! The website said it was on as well! Never mind, we had a lovely walk around the grounds. By lunchtime it was quite busy, and queueing for a cup of tea took about 20 minutes. We left at that point and drove to my mum's for a buffet Easter lunch, which was very nice. I got slightly lost on the way, as the A23 appears to have morphed into a new road that wasn't there the last time I drove it. Very odd.

Monday we went to London. We had a walk along the Regents Canal, and then went to London Zoo. There was a huge queue to get in the zoo - it took about half an hour. We saw a lion and a gorilla. Oh, and a camel. It was a bit rubbish, really. There were no bears to be seen in the bear enclosure, and the sign for the tigers just led you back to the lions - presumably they were trying to pass them off as tigers. It might have been a bit better if it wasn't so busy there, though. Then we walked through Regents Park to Baker Street tube to get home.

We've got tons of Easter Eggs at home now, as has everyone I suppose. Better get chomping!
